WATER CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT

Water is essential for all life on Earth. Water forms over 85 – 90% of the plant body by green or fresh weight basis. It is a constituent of protoplasm. It acts as a solvent. Water is essential for many activities like nutrients dissolve process, transpiration, photosynthesis, food formation, maintain turgidity of cells, germination of seeds, transpiration chemical, physical and biological reaction in soil, temperature regulation etc.

At present there are many challenges of Indian soils :

  • Uneven Rainfall distribution
  • Run off of water ( Soil Erosion )
  • Increasing salinity of water
  • Occurrence of Pesticide residue and heavy metals in irrigation water.
  • Over-allocation of existing supplies

Objective of Water management

  • Improvement in soil structure
  • Improve irrigation use efficiency.
  • To make farmers aware about importance of water in crop production ( Excess /less)
  • Promotion on farm water storage structure
  • To know about water quality
  • Promotion of crops and varieties which require less water.
  • Land engineering

What we do?

  • Plantation
  • Promotion of Irrigation systems like drip, sprinklers etc
  • Rain water harvesting technologies like Tube well recharge, well recharge, on farm pond etc.
  • Drainage improvement
  • Farm contour bunding
  • Mulching
  • Controlled irrigation
  • Use of Organic manures to improve soil moisture holding capacity.
  • Water testing
  • Training and Practical Demonstration of technologies at farm level.
  • Making Village Subject matter specialist / master trainer / resource person ( Jal Rakshak )
  • Linking farmers with Government department schemes.
